The Story
- The pleached beech arbors in the gardens of the Governor's Palace in Williamsburg, Virginia, caught the eye of Global View's designer George Sellers when he visited to develop Williamsburg products.
- The original Palace was constructed under the auspices of Lt. Governor Alexander Spotswood, royal governor from 1710 to 1722.
- Spotswood also created the Palace's elaborate gardens.
- He owned a book on the gardens of Versailles, so may have nurtured French-style arbors as a cool respite from a Tidewater Virginia summer.
