The Story

  • This porcelain sculpture decorated with a compelling combination of white, black and golden luster is the result of the collaboration between Lladró and Laolu Senbanjo, a Brooklyn-based Nigerian visual artist, musician, human rights lawyer and activist.
  • Senbanjo’s personal graphic language, which combines influences from the Yoruba culture from Nigeria with a more contemporary treatment, is coupled with the sculptural form to give rise to a singular body of work with the personal stamp of a committed artist.
  • Rendering Senbajo’s drawing in porcelain called for outstanding work in two main areas.
  • On one hand, the ornamentation team had to etch each one of the strokes by hand so that they could be recreated in the pieces.
  • On the other, it required the expert hands of the decoration team to carefully paint them in black and golden luster.
